Interviews & Hype: "Why I'm Still Single Despite Everything" - BBA's Karen Igho

BBA winner, Karen Igho is really waiting patiently for her real husband. Below is her latest rants...

"My celebrity status attracts and it scares men away too. It scares some because not every man can handle or understand fame. It takes a strong and understanding man to be able to be with a female celebrity. The attracting aspect comes from when they just want to be with you because they want to be able to say 'I’ve been with Karen Igho'.

It takes God’s grace to be able to sift the chaff from the wheat.I’m not in any relationship at the moment because... Love is unpredictable though; if my man comes along the way, then it is all well and good."

Don't know why guys are ignoring this babe. Please, Lagos guys try and consider Karen noow. LOL!

Gossip & Gists: Police Rescue 16 Pregnant Teenagers From Illegal Orphanage Run By A Fake Doctor In Imo State

The Imo State Police Command yesterday rescued 16 pregnant girls aged between 14 to 19 years from an illegal orphanage that operated in the guise of an NGO. The 'orphanage' was operated by a fake medical doctor, James Ezuma.

Ezuma is currently standing trial for alleged gun running. The NGO named the Ezuma Women and Children Rights Protection Initiative (EWCRPI) was a platform that shields Ezuma's criminal activities from security operatives.

Briefing our correspondence, the State Commissioner of Police, Muhammad Musa Katsina, disclosed that "...the NGO was a baby factory where girls were encouraged to get pregnant and paid N100,000 on delivery to give away their babies, who then have been used for purposes ranging from child trafficking to rituals", Katsina said.

He added that "... the Command is trying to unravel the whereabouts of a baby that was snatched away from its teenage mother, Nnachi Chinaza, by the suspect who refused to disclose to the Police who the baby was sold to".

"So far he has taken us to Abia state where he said the baby is but we were unable to recover the baby, though investigations are still ongoing, the presumption at the moment is that the baby may have been used for ritual purposes", Katsina said.

He warned parents to watch their teenage girls to protect them from child traffickers and baby factory operators. Katsina further said that Ezuma was arraigned before an Owerri Chief Magistrate Court in November 2013 for the offence of conspiracy and unlawful possession of firearms.

However, when the police conducted a search on the premises of the purported NGO, sixteen pregnant girls between the ages of fourteen and nineteen were found; also recovered was an automatic eight loader pump action gun which is a prohibited firearm.

The 19-year-old mother of the missing child from Ebonyi State told us she was directed to come to the home by a lady who promised she will be taken care of. She said that her baby was taken away without her consent. "When I started disturbing him to give me my baby, he gave me one hundred thousand Naira instead".

The names of the rescued expectant mothers were given as Peace Effiong (24, Rivers state), Rita Nnanna (25, Anambra), Blessing Ubbah (20, Lagos), Joy Brown (19, Imo), Precious Anyadike (18, Lagos), Kelechi Wenwu (17, Imo), Chidinma Okoro (19, Enugu), Iheekanma Onwubiko (21, Imo), Chinyere Ibenime (20, Imo), Nkiru Alozie (16, Abia), Nnachi Chinaza (19, Ebonyi), Victoria Peter Udoh (16, Akwa Ibom), Ngozi Ike (20, Rivers), Chika Eze (18, Abia), Jecila Nwonke (19, Abia) and Chinaza Samsom (14, Abia).

Also recovered in the vast remises were ten exotic cars such as a green Jaguar Car with reg. # PD787 IKJ, a red Lincon Navigator with registration number, DN 494 ABC, ash Jaguar Car with reg. # BT 929 GWA, white Chrysler with reg. # RBC 335 AS, Red Chrysler with reg. # BH 168 GWA, white Chrysler with reg. # JZ 608 ABC, black Lincoln Car with reg. # EU 917 LND, ash Honda Jeep with reg. # EZ 388 ABJ and two other unregistered cars, ash Nissan Quest and Nissan Partfinder Jeep.

To recall, on November 25, Imo State Government promised to revoke certificates of all foster homes in its attempt to solve the problems of baby factories in the state. 'Production' of babies has become a 'blooming' business in Nigeria. There are, however, no statistics on the number of babies sold, nor the young men and women entangled.

Gossip & Gists: Mandela’s Death Leaves South Africa Without Its Moral Center

Freedom fighter, statesman, moral compass and South Africa's symbol of the struggle against racial oppression. That was Nelson Mandela, who emerged from prison after 27 years to lead his country out of decades of apartheid.

He died Thursday night at age 95. His message of reconciliation, not vengeance, inspired the world after he negotiated a peaceful end to segregation and urged forgiveness for the white government that imprisoned him.

"As I walked out the door toward the gate that would lead to my freedom, I knew if I didn't leave my bitterness and hatred behind, I'd still be in prison," Mandela said after he was freed in in 1990. Mandela, a former president, battled health issues in recent years, including a recurring lung infection that led to numerous hospitalizations.

Despite rare public appearances, he held a special place in the consciousness of the nation and the world.

"Our nation has lost its greatest son. Our people have lost a father," South African President Jacob Zuma said. "What made Nelson Mandela great was precisely what made him human. We saw in him what we seek in ourselves."

His U.S. counterpart, Barack Obama, echoed the same sentiment. "We've lost one of the most influential, courageous and profoundly good human beings that any of us will share time with on this Earth," Obama said. "He no longer belongs to us -- he belongs to the ages."

Gossip & Gists: Man, 22, Commits Suicide After Being Dumped By His 48-Year-Old Married Sugar Mummy

A young man is dead after he couldn’t take the pain of being dumped by his “sugar mummy,” according to police reports in Ghana.

Michael Jaja and his sugar mummy

Tema Police said that a local man committed suicide after being dumped by his girlfriend, who was more than twice his age. 22-year-old Michael Jaja believed that his sweet life ended when his 48-year-old sugar mummy decided to call off their relationship.

The man, who received a Toyota Corolla as a gift and a fully paid trip to Dubai and China, also lived in the house belonging to the sugar mummy’s husband.

All seemed between the two until she broke the news of her husband’s return from abroad, prompting them to end the relationship. Jaja did not take the news well, and he told the woman that he will commit suicide.

Jaja took a bottle of acid and drank it. He died from poisoning.

Interviews & Hype: Bukky Wright Reveals Why Actresses Live Fake Lives

Bukky Wright is an actress in Nollywood. The beautiful actress has also produced quite a large number of Yoruba movies. As a norm in the showbiz industry, living fake lives is synonymous to Nollywood, the entertainment world generally.

bukky_wrightt

Showbiz as it’s being called is all about show but what happens when what one shows is nothing to show home about? This, of course, might have led the Nollywood diva, Bukky Wright to share her opinion on why entertainers live fake lives and what makes her different.

“I think it is crazy for any celebrity to paint the picture of what he or she cannot achieve five years from now. They call it showbiz and you have to show, but sometimes, you have to put that aside and be yourself. I am not the kind of woman that likes to do what others do. I love to be myself and those who know me would tell you that is the real Bukky for you.”

On who the real Bukky Wright is “the real Bukky Wright is God-fearing, down to earth, but very blunt to a large extent. The funny thing about this job is that people won’t complain if you act in a movie where you are asked to cry from the beginning to the end. It will surprise you to hear that some of my fans do tell me that when I am crying in movies, they also cry. What that tells you is that I am doing what I have to do rightly, interpreting my roles passionately.”

Gossip & Gists: FG Ready To Pay Salary Arrears Of Lecturers Who Comply With Resumption Ultimatum – NUC

The Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, NUC, Professor Julius Okojie has said that the Federal Government was ready to pay the four-month salary arrears owed academic staff who returns to work.

okojie

Briefing our correspondence, yesterday, in Abuja, Okojie said; "Councils have been directed to shift the resumption date to December 9. The new deadline, has already been communicated to the Pro-Chancellors Tuesday (yesterday) morning."

“The Federal Government as an employer of labour cannot just fold its arms while the institutions remain shut and its clients — the students — continue to suffer. You cannot pay someone who has failed to resume work. You are on strike and you want to be paid. What if some have already left the system? Some of our very bright lecturers may have got jobs elsewhere already.”

Okojie noted that “the resumption order does not necessarily mean students would commence academic activities immediately but the school environment has to be put back in shape as reptiles may have taken over some places, and the Senate of each institution has to revisit the academic calendar. Students would be expected to resume one or two weeks after the December 9 resumption deadline”.

Okojie while responding to several issues raised by ASUU, insisted that it was a general consensus at the November 4, 2013 meeting with the President to have the Permanent Secretary of the Education Ministry sign the resolutions reached after the meeting.

Okojie stressed that the issue of the inclusion of a non-victimization clause as now demanded by ASUU did not even come up at all during and after the meeting.

“Jega and Awuzie are past ASUU chairmen. Are they not holding good positions in Nigeria today? Why would anyone victimize someone for exercising his right? If anyone would do such a thing, not the Jonathan government. In fact the mood that day did not reflect such, we were all smiles and hugs. After that meeting we were all hopeful that was the end of the crises,” he said.

He wondered why ASUU would return three weeks later, after it had failed to get back to government on November 8 as agreed, and demand addition of new clauses.

He said: “The 2009 Agreement stipulates that any party that wants a re-negotiation should inform the Ministry of Labour. If ASUU had said they would resume, but the outstanding issues must be addressed, government would have no choice,” Okojie said.

On the N200 billion revitalization fund which ASUU is demanding should be disbursed within two weeks, Okojie diclosed that the money has been deposited in an account in the Central Bank of Nigeria. “The money cannot, however, be disbursed just anyhow because they are meant for capital projects,” he said.

Okojie therefore appealed to the striking union to return to work in the interest of students who he described as the victims. “One of the universities in Uganda where our children are enrolling, neigbouring countries do not even accept their degrees. Our children are going to schools with poorer degrees,” he lamented.

Gossip & Gists: Kenyan Footballer Dennis Oliech Denies Impregnating Pendo

Reports in some Kenya media allege the controversial singer took in for the 28-year-old footballer following a steamy affair. Some say it’s possible she has already aborted the baby.

However, Oliech denied this rumour with the claim that he has no business with Pendo "I am not dating her. I don’t even know her personally. My enemies are behind this and I choose to ignore it. I won’t be pulled into petty politics, I have no idea what they want to achieve. I am not even interested in knowing all that. But I want to be left alone. I live a quiet life" he told Monday Blues.

Stories on Pendo’s sexual escapades have been rampant this year especially with earlier claims of her sleeping with 19-year-old gospel singer, Willy Paul which almost jeopardized the young star’s career. The socialite was also linked with Nigerian pop star, Davido when he visited Kenya for the Bombaata Festival even though Davido denied her claims.

Sossip & Gists: "In Just One Year, My Life Changed Forever", Read Matse Uwatse’s Story

Maste and husband Mr Nnoli

2013!! Slowly coming to an end. A year of many joys and enlightenment. If one had told me on the December 31, 2012 when I lit fireworks and screamed ‘Happy New Year!’ that I would be married and expecting a miracle; my mini-me, I would have doubted. If someone had told me I would be a dual citizen of Nigeria and Germany, I would have wondered how. I was terribly hurt in 2012 but in just one year my life changed forever.

Some have said, ‘Can she ever settle down?’, ‘Who will marry this feminist?’, ‘Which man go put this one for house?’. Well, my God has answered those questions. I have grown mentally, spiritually and emotionally. I have learnt not to be selfish and more tolerant. It wasn’t all roses in 2013… I lost my job that I put so much into but gratefully other doors are opening. I was sick beyond comprehension and thought I would die but God was with me.

I fought with some family members but it brought us closer. I gained better relationships with my loved ones and I acquired a brand new family (The Nnolis) and in the process of making my own. As the last days of December 2013 comes, keep believing, keep fighting and stay strong. Miracles do happen. You heart desires will be granted. Your pain will be removed and your joy established.

But remember, always keep a clean heart and wish others no evil and I guaranty you, it will be well with you shortly. Lord, I thank you for 2013…It is a year I will always remember. Keep us all to enjoy the blessing of 2014.

Gossip & Gists: Did Kim Kardashian Change Kanye West?

Yea yea, we know Kim Kardashian taking her one billionth selfie shouldn’t really be news. Just that one can’t help but wonder what’s going on in the mind of hubby-to-be Kanye West.

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West

Take a look at Kanye as he stands in the background looking: emotionless. It’s like he doesn’t want to be there but can’t help it. It begs the question: what have the Kardashian women got that somehow overpowers the men in their lives, throwing them in second place – Kris Humphries, Bruce Jenner, Lamar Odom, Scott Disick. Makes sense?

We won’t deny that a lot of Kanye fans feel he hasn’t been acting himself for a long while now but his ‘craze’ seems to have grown exponentially ever since he started dating the TV reality star in 2012.

The rapper now refers to his wife as the modern day Marilyn Monroe, saying they, as a couple, are more influential than the Obamas!

In recent times, Kanye has been thrown into the public eye with Paparazzi swarming over him, releasing one of the most confusing albums of the year, going off on a Photographer at L.A.X Airport, ranting at Pusha T’s album listening party, naming his daughter North West, turning up on radio host Sway, calling himself the most influential genius in the last 10 years, and on and on…

Will Yeezy fall in line with the other ‘Kardashian men’ who have somewhat fallen out of the public’s favour and acceptance (except Scott Disick)? Only time will tell.

Gossip & Gists: Mary J. Blige Gave Up Alcohol After Whitney’s death

Mary J. Blige has revealed that the death of her close friend Whitney Houston shocked her so much she gave up drinking alcohol as she realised the ‘importance’ of her own life.

The ‘Be Without You’ songstress says her close pal’s death in February 2012 had such a profound effect on her she began contemplating her own mortality and gave up drinking in a bid to boost her health. She said: "I was at her funeral [and] being that close to someone you loved so dearly, in a coffin, it freaked me out. It made me realise the importance of my own life. ’I didn’t stop overnight, it was a process. I feel great right now. I have more clarity, more focus, more patience. And I lost weight. When you stop drinking it flies off!"

The 42-year-old star will even abstain from toasting her 10-year anniversary with husband Kendu Isaacs with a glass of champagne next year. She told our source: "I’ll have a glass of ginger ale. Ginger ale and Diet Coke are my drinks."

The ‘No More Drama’ hitmaker, who was hit with a $3.4 million tax lien earlier this year, says there are always obstacles in life, but she has learned to deal with whatever may come her way. She explained: "There’s always drama, but you have to learn to navigate your way through it. Life is full of trials and tribulations, but I know now how to get out of it. You have to make a decision to say ‘no more."
