Interviews & Hype: "My Marriage To Phillip Inspired My Colleagues" - Ini Edo

Controversial Nollywood actress, Ini Edo has said that her marriage to her husband, Phillip Ehiagwina inspired her colleagues in the make-believe industry in Nigeria. The pretty ‘Brown Sugar’, as her fans fondly address her, made this known in an interview.

According to the graduate of Theatre Arts from the University of Calabar, Cross Rivers State, she is very thankful to God for inspiring her colleagues.

She stated that, “I set the pace, I set the trend”, when she married Phillip, a US-based businessman from the Ishan tribe of Edo State.

The multi-award winning actress got married to her hubby in 2008.

The two recently jetted out of the country for a second honeymoon. She has had to live with some controversies. She started acting in 2008 and has several films to her credits.

Gossip & Gists: Amber Rose (Finally) Arrives Lagos

Who remembers the whole controversy surrounding Amber Rose’s visit to Nigeria back in 2011? Mrs Wiz Khalifa finally arrived Nigeria last weekend and there’s no drama this time around – at least not yet.

Amber Rose and Karlie Redd on a plane coming to Lagos
Amber Rose arrived Lagos, September 21, 2013 for the Miss Earth Nigeria pageant where she has been chosen as a judge alongside actress Genevieve Nnaji, Hollywood hunk Boris Kodjoe and hip-hop artist, dancer, model Karlie Redd.

In 2011, Amber Rose’s planned visit was thrown into dilemma when nude pictures of the model surfaced online. Shortly after, her reps disclosed she was never contacted to host the maiden edition of fashion show Music Meets Runway.

Interviews & Hype: I Was Attacked With Tomatoes After Snatching My Friend's Husband - Shan George Opens Up

In a recent interview, Cross River - born actress, Shan George opened up about making movies and her life in general, read excerpts below:

On how many movies she produced

I produced my first movie when I was at the University of Lagos which was in 2008. It was titled All for Winnie.  Till date, I have produced 22 movies in all.

On how the scandals and controversies affect her

As a human being, such things affect me. How we cope with it is what makes us different. For me, I see it as the hazard of the profession. Fortunately, my children are adults and can decipher truth from falsehood. Truth is, when people write false comments about you, those who are very close to you (your family) always know the truth. They are those who matter to me. Once you have a clear conscience, then there is no fear.

On rumors of her third marriage

There was no third marriage. Actually, it was a role I played in a movie, entitled ‘Heartbreak’, it was shot late last year in Abuja. In the movie, I got married and the production pictures circulated in the media as part of publicity stunt for the movie. Then, some bloggers, who claim to be journalists, got hold of it and said I got married! It was just a movie wedding not a real one.

On if she regrets being an actress

Yes. I do nurse regrets when people assume you are the roles you interpret in films. It is make-believe and if you don’t do it well, no producer comes for you again. The number two challenge of acting is the fact that people think you are what they see in movies. If you were living in a big house or you are a big Abuja babe and then when they see you in real life they want to see you in that wealthy appearance and opulence which is not in existence and then it has a psychological effect on those acting.

There was a time I was pelted with tomatoes at Alade market because some of those people believed I snatched my friend’s husband in a movie! That aside, some actors act as rich men/women in films and cannot extricate themselves from such roles in reality. They now live beyond their means and get involved in scandals because they are so desperate to meet with the standard. I am not a victim of that anyway.

On exposing skin for movie roles

Yes, that was then. Now, I reject some scripts not because they would not pay me, (in fact, they are willing to pay double) but because of obscenity. Recently, I was invited to shoot a film in Ghana and I rejected the script because it exposes a lot of my body as a character in the movie. The producer was willing to pay me in millions but I refused.

Gossip & Gists: Would The ASUU Strike End Soon?

A few days ago, it was reported that the Vice president of Nigeria Namadi Sambo joined the team of Federal Government delegates to resolve the on going issues with #ASUU as students have now been home for almost 3-months.

Following the meeting on Friday with Namadi Sambo present, we’ve learnt there is a possibility of the strike being suspended in the next week or so. This would be brilliant if that is the case. As it means, VP Sambo has been able to reach some sort of working agreement with ASUU members. We’ll have to wait for news on the details of the agreement reached. In the meantime, I got this from a colleague on the effects of the strike.  Read below.
Okay, now I found the perfect spot for the calendar, very close to my bed, so that I would remember every morning that another “illegal” day has been added to my “supposed” four year course in the University Of Lagos, thanks to the Academic Staff Union Of Universities (Asuu) and the Federal Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (FG) *stressing the ’F’ words*
It so disheartening and unfortunate that the battle between the high and mighty has, and will always continue to affect us, because there is ALMOST nothing we can do about it.
Most of this so called “our Guys” that “we” voted for are only adding more to the problems they met on ground, as their seemingly redundant ears angers the public, especially the youths which holds the heart of the economy.
The third month is almost over, and we are still being tossed here and there like a DSTV remote. Definitely, our dear leaders are not taking so many things into consideration. We can’t wait forever. My four year course has been stretched by 3months (some people claim seniority with 3months oh). If this keeps going on and I (God forbid) end up graduating at a rather awkward age (adding the years I wasted at home applying for admission, and getting denied, because we had too many applicants for very few available schools, which is not my fault, but the responsibility of the government).
Now, if the strike does prolong for longer than it should(I am currently an Economics student  - a 4 year course which could go on for 6years if this continues), I face the risk of being too old with no prior experience(most jobs I would like to apply for require a minimum of 5 years experience)  - when I have used all my supposed working experience years in school embroiled in politics of education.  By the time I manage to get the years of experience needed, I am too old to apply for the job… BET WHY?
The worst thing the government can do is to delay or even try to change the future of the country, because, believe it or not, during this wait, many youths have lost hope in education and would rather go and sleep over in studios, begging for sessions to make junk music and BLOW. That’s why these days sef, the artistes are more than their fans…  I mean, how sure are you that I am not already thinking of using my next school fees to get a laptop and a modem for my ‘YH industry’.
In fairness, the FG needs to settle ASUUguys, but honestly, there has to be another way for them(ASUU) to show their dissatisfaction besides holding the nation’s future to ransom.  It’s quite unfair. Most of us are idle which is not so healthy for the mind; it gives room for the devil to magnify our already mischievous thoughts and gives will to do (the Negative). So next time when you are wondering one of the major causes of increased rate of corruption in the country, don’t think too far before you mention Asuu Strike.
Dear Whoever is in charge,
Please do the right thing and be happy with yourself.
Let it be said that that you ended there miserable months of endless wait.
And let the souls of all the frustrated Nigerian students pray for you… Amen
That ends my frustration inspired Lecture “ASUU 411”

Interviews & Hype: "Being A Lawyer Has Always Been My Dream", Says 9ice As He Goes Back To School

After having one of the most successful albums of all time, 9ice has decided to go back and pursue his career as a lawyer. In this interview with our correspondence, he says its always been his dreams.

You were said to have pulled out of your Law programme at the Lagos State University to face music. That decision paid off, but you seem not to be happy about it now?

I didn’t pull out because of music; I left school because I was unable to pay my school fees. While I was on the street, I gave hundred percent of my life to music and it paid off eventually.

When I was in school, I was just doing music for fun until I left school. At that point, I decided that I was going to face music passionately and from that point, things changed.

Your decision to leave school wouldn’t have gone down well with your parents, how did they react to it and what was constantly coming to your mind back then?

It was not an easy decision to make. There were days that I had to live in the studio. Talking about my parents’ reaction, I had to lie for a while, pretended as if all was well. Before my parents knew I wasn’t in school, it was too late to complain because I was already on TVs, making money and rocking shows all around.

Would you consider going back to school someday?

I’m in school already, studying public safety and Common Law at Capella university. It is an online programme. I can’t think of any other course except law.

Would you trade your being famous for something else if you look at some of the bad side of fame that you have experienced over time?

Yes, I will love to trade fame with some silent life that does not arrogate too much attention to one, but it has got nothing to do with any bad experience. No matter what you do or who you are, there’s always a difficult time and life challenges that you can’t run away from. But I will really love to trade because I wish to be a lawyer. That has always been my dream.

Do you think life would have been different for you should you have been a lawyer?

Honestly, life as a normal person is fine and more wonderful, free, fair and peaceful. But as a public figure, you enjoy more and you pay more in terms of the price you pay for being famous. If I come to this world again, I would prefer normal life.
